I had 3 adult bridesmaids, two old and special friends and a cousin who is also a very close and special friend. They were so supportive throughout the run up to the wedding and also on the day.
I paid for their bridesmaids dresses (this is controversial as some people think the BM’s should pay for their own
dresses, but I wanted to treat them). A couple of them bought and paid for their own shoes/bags whilst the other used shoes she already had. I have to say that I wasn’t too bothered about what shoes they wore, I wanted them to be comfortable. Also, my budget wouldn’t stretch that far!!
I bought their dresses from a shop local to us, but they were from the Dessy range – they have a brilliant website and you can mix and match styles and colours so you get the exact colour that you want.
Other places to look are Debenhams, Monsoon and Phase Eight.
I bought them cream pashminas to wear in case it was a cold day and since it was a bit chilly they ended up wearing them so that was a good purchase! I bought the pashminas from Marks and Spencer and were only £15 each. Marks and Spencer have lots of different shades so you can be sure to find one that matches the bridesmaids as well as the colour scheme of your day.
If you are having flower girls, then BHS has everything you could possibly need for a flower girl at very good prices. You should also look in local dance shops for pretty pumps for flower girls if you are unable to get them from a high street shop.
In terms of their presents, these came from Dinny Hall who do some lovely jewellery which will last as is great quality. I bought from their website and the necklaces came so well packaged. I would definitely recommend them to anyone.
Top Tips for Bridesmaids Dresses:
1. Shop around. It is fun spending time with the girls shopping for the dresses so enjoy it.
2. If you are paying for your bridesmaids dresses then get them something they are likely to wear again.
3. Negotiate with the shop. I ended up getting a 10% discount on the dresses just for asking!
