Catering

This in my opinion is an important thing to get right.  Serve bad food and your guests will always remember that when they think of your wedding!

We decided to go for canapés, a starter (served on the table) and a buffet main course.  All of the food on the buffet wasCanapes cold as the price per head for the meal would have been a lot more if we’d had hot food since we would have had to pay to hire ovens and more staff.  Also, if you decide to serve hot food there is a risk that the food will be cold by the time it gets to the tables.

Top Tips

  1. Negotiate, they want your business.
  2. Serve the wedding cake as desert.
  3. Choose local produce and produce that is in season as that is cheaper for the caterer and cheaper for you!
  4. If you have a buffet then you need less wait staff which reduces costs.
  5. If you are serving bread there is no need to hire side plates, these didn’t actually fit on our table and nobody noticed!
  6. Napkins – we used very thick paper napkins, they were £9.50 for 50 napkins which was a lot cheaper than hiring them (that would have been £.90 a napkin!).
  7. Wine glasses – although we served both white and red wine, we only put one wine glass on the table for each person.  There are few people who ‘change’ wines throughout the night and it is cheaper to only have one glass per person.
